"Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?" This is a cliched but common question interviewers ask.
What would be a good response? As I
always say, "What is the question behind that question?"
In this case, the interviewer just
wants to align your 'career expectations' and find out what your 'career
vision' is.
Instead of answering with a 'Job Title'
("I want to be a Director in 5 yrs time"), respond in terms of
specific skill-sets or area of responsibility.
"I'd like to lead a regional
business." "I see myself being able to spearhead multi-million dollar
government deals." "I want to be the subject-matter-expert in
Compliance for APAC."
Come prepared for this question and have an intelligent and impactful response. The job's yours!
